Terry Besaw is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 25 years of child protection experience as a county agency line worker and supervisor. He worked 10 more years as a child safety consultant for the Minnesota Department of Human Services (MN-DHS).

In 2008 Terry began leading a Casey Family Programs funded Signs of Safety training and support initiative with Dan, Safe Generations, county social workers, and supervisors. From 2012-2015 Terry organized 2 day Communities of Practice State Wide Conferences for social workers to share impressive work and spread good practice. As a result of Terry’s leadership at least 45 Minnesota counties have implemented or explored the Signs of Safety so far.

Terry is very excited about our ideas for addressing the concern that Safety Planning and Signs of Safety is too time intensive for workers, especially as they “skill up” and for the opportunity to continue to work to spread Signs of Safety throughout Minnesota and across the United States.
